De Zonen van Van As - De Cross

Movie Score Media has released the original score from the 2022 comedy feature film De Zonen van Van As - De Cross directed by Thomas de Cock, starring Ben Segers, Maaike Cafmeyer and Jaak Van Assche, produced by René Vlaeyen Film Productions and released by Just Entertainmen (Belgium).

THE STORY: After a stroke, Frans Van As hands over his construction company to his granddaughter Linde and her husband Dick. As the main sponsor, they organize a local race in cyclocross, but a fire on the site the day before the race causes tension and misunderstandings.

THE SCORE: It's hard to describe how it feels like to write a score for your first feature film. It's a blend of emotions going from honoured to have landed the task, to a state of panic which always comes quite unexpectedly with every new project. But pretty soon fear became excitement once the creative writing process unfolded. Challenges became opportunities. That is in no small part thanks to all the wonderful people involved with this big hearted film.
It's the first time I've collaborated with producer Olivier Stoffelen who was there for me every step of the way. When asked to work with live musicians to spice up things, he gave me all the support needed and replied that he didn't see this as extra expenses but rather investments in my music. So a lot of the joy, emotion and energy you'll experience comes from working with these insanely talented musicians that contributed so generously to this filmscore. The result is an album with hints of folk and country, infused with western elements and some small tributes to the great French and Italian movie maestro's.

This film also marks my second collaboration with the great combo Frank Van Looy (editor) and Thomas De Cock (director). Frank has a keen sense for rhythm and storytelling which makes my job as a composer more focused. Thomas as always approached my scoring duties boundlessly with so much passion, knowledge and companionship. I am truly blessed to have worked with these very fine people and be a part of this film.

THE COMPOSER: Belgian composer Joris Hermy has worked for diverse popular television networks like VTM (Kzoom), VIER & RTL Telekids and a loyal base of respectable international clients like Stan Lee’s World of Heroes, Studio 100, Klomp! Animation, Audiocult, Brandy & Twice Entertainment to name a few. In recent years he scored multiple shorts, most notably the a Sundance audience-awarded short Avalon or the popular Marvel-based web series Bad Days, created by the legendary Stan Lee. His score for the TV series Gina & Chantal was released by MovieScore Media.

It's now available digitally and on streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music. The total playtime of the soundtrack is 40 minutes.
