Le monde sans soleil (The World Without Sun) EP

Disques Cinemusique presents Le monde sans soleil (The World Without Sun) digital edition. Conductor Serge Baudo established his mark at the turn of the 1960s, mainly in the classical repertoire. He has also directed many scores of film music. Let”s mention 25 years of French Film Music, an exemplary compilation produced in 1956 by Lucien Adès, reissued on CD in 2010 by Disques Cinémusique and available in digital format.

Le monde sans soleil (The World Without Sun) , the celebrated documentary directed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1964, is officially the only score written by Serge Baudo, who of course also directs the orchestra. As you would expect, the music does not shine by its originality but it is of great efficiency. Baudo makes the most of a large orchestra with alternately dramatic and playful accents.

Excerpts of the score were published on a EP 45 rpm at the time. Unfortunately the bad quality of the pressing explains why this record quickly disappeared from circulation and became an object of curiosity coveted by collectors.

The Disques Cinemusique digital edition keeps only four out of the five original tracks, and we needed more than one copy of the precious vinyl to achieve this result.
