Varèse Sarabande – 35 years of great film music

Varèse Sarabande was founded in 1978, and it was the first label that worked almost exclusively on film music. Currently, its directory includes over 1500 soundtracks, and every year the label releases another 60 to 70 titles. On top of the absolute novelty, it also presents restored recordings of the greatest classics of the Golden Age of Hollywood, prepared by the great George Korngold, Miklos Rozsa and Elmer Bernstein.

Currently, Robert Townson who joined the label in 1986 is the most important figure at Varèse Sarabande. Since that time, he produced more than 1,200 soundtracks and has become one of the most influential personalities in the world of film music. His work, not only focuses on the blockbusters of contemporary cinema, but from the very beginning of his career he has considered restoring and releasing priceless musical treasures of the Golden Age of Hollywood to be his priority.

Robert Townson will host the Sunday concert on August 4th, at the Auditorium of AMU. From the stage, he will tell the audience the remarkable story of Varèse Sarabande and share the insides on working with the greatest composers. A concert flutist, Sara Andon, will also be the special guest; she has been known for her participation in the recording of multiple audio tracks ('Wolverine,' 'Die Hard 5').

Special guest – Marco Beltrami!

Marco Beltrami will be a special guest of the TRANSATLANTYK FESTIVAL POZNAN. Currently, he is one of the most sought-after film composers of the younger generation. He has already been nominated twice for the Academy Award for the music score for '3:10 to Yuma' and 'The Hurt Locker' he also worked with directors such as Wes Craven, Guillermo Del Toro, Luc Besson and Tommy Lee Jones. Currently, two films with his music are playing in the movie theaters - 'A Good Day to Die Hard' and 'World War Z'. Soon, another film, 'Wolverine' will also hit the theaters.

Beltrami was born in New York; he received his music education in the U.S. and Italy. However, he was studying the difficult art of film music composition under the wing of legendary Jerry Goldsmith, at USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles. The world heard about him first in 1996, when he wrote the music score for the film 'Scream,' directed by Wes Craven. Pretty soon, he became an expert on soundtracks for horrors and thrillers. He owes his success primarily to his search of new sounds, which were breaking the former convention and determining a new direction for film music.

Some other composers associated with Varèse Sarabande will also be the special guests at the gala in Poznan. Soon we will reveal their names…
