40th Film Festival Ghent

Desplat guest of honor at WSA + Concert with music of Scorsese films.

The first details have arrived of the 40th Film Festival of Ghent. The Ghent Film Festival is delighted to welcome the French composer Alexandre Desplat to the traditional film music concert during the second part of the World Soundtrack Academy award ceremony which will bring the 40th film festival to a festive end on October 19th 2013. Alexandre Desplat will perform a selection of his incredibly rich and varied film compositions at ‘t Kuipke Ghent in front of an audience of 3,000 people and film music fans. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented during the award ceremony of the WSA concert goes to the Italian composer Riz Ortolani, born in 1931 in Pesaro, Italy. Together with Ennio Morricone and the late Carlo Rustichelli and Nino Rota, Ortolani is one of the greats of Italian film music from the golden era of Italian cinema.

Also this year on October 17th 2013 conductor Dirk Brossé will conduct a concert with music featured in films directed by Martin Scorsese. Martin Scorsese is a director who attaches enormous importance to music in his films and exhibits great diversity in his choice of composers, his use of existing classical pieces or excerpts from pop and rock songs and the works of classical American songwriters. Hardly surprising, since film and music are the two
great passions of the director of Mean Streets and Raging Bull. He has worked with composer such as Bernard Herrmann and Howard Shore.

More details about the programme and tickets will follow in the coming weeks.
