Disques Cinémusique presents the music composed and conducted by Georges Delerue (1925-1992) for the movie French Dressing (1964) by British director Ken Russell. This soundtrack was never released on record but the movie is available on DVD since 2015. We have selected the best passages that have only bits of dialogue and sound effects.

For his first feature film centred on a small coastal village which invites an European starlet (Marisa Mell) for its film festival, Ken Russell called on the composer of Shoot the Pianist and Jules and Jim by François Truffaut, he greatly admired. Delerue was able to bring an added value to this burlesque comedy whose male star, James Booth, reminds a little of Alan Bates who will shine in Women in Love by the same director.

By the way some French Dressing themes foreshadow the atypical Delerue’s marches and polkas which will be heard in Philippe de Broca's The King of Hearts, two years later: a mixture of fantasy and always melodic poetry.

The score incorporates a traditional song, Pretty Little Turtle Dove, nicely performed by Alita Naughton. This newcomer actress does well in a thankless supporting role but she had unfortunately a very short career on the big screen.
