Milan Records announces the July 10 release of Japan Sinks: 2020 (Original Soundtrack) with music by Japanese composer and artist Kensuke Ushio. Available to preorder now, the album features music written by Ushio for Netflix’s newest original anime series, based on the bestselling science fiction novel by Sakyo Komatsu.

The project reunites Ushio with series director Masaaki Yuasa, the duo having previously worked together on titles like Devilman Crybaby and Space Dandy. The first-ever anime adaptation of the best-selling novel, Japan Sinks: 2020 premieres on Netflix Thursday, July 9.

Of the soundtrack, composer Kensuke Ushio says,
“In Japan Sinks: 2020, a natural disaster destroys people's ordinary lives; however the story captures the tiny hopes that go through people's minds as their calm and beautiful days are falling apart. And so it is the same with the soundtrack – for example tracks like ‘rising sun, again’ – it almost feels like this project went beyond the show itself and started to reflect the situation surrounding many of us now.”

An ordinary family is put to the test as a series of massive earthquakes throw Japan into total mayhem.
From director Masaaki Yuasa (Devilman Crybaby), the first anime adaptation of the bestselling science fiction novel by Sakyo Komatsu, Japan Sinks: 2020 premieres July 9 only on Netflix.
