On vinyl for the first time, as well as on an expanded 2-CD set, the definitive soundtrack to the film Hackers is being released in conjunction with this month’s 25th anniversary of the film, exclusively from Varèse Sarabande Records. The double LP features music from an incredible lineup of electronic artists, and three never-before-released score tracks including, “Hackers Suite,” performed by composer Simon Boswell, as well as two pieces by Guy Pratt, “One Combination” and “Grand Central Station,” featuring David Gilmour.

Additionally, tracks that were not on the original soundtrack release in 1995, including “Protection” by Massive Attack and “Open Up” by Leftfield, are part of this special album edition. The commemorative package includes two black vinyl LPs in a gatefold, new liner notes from director Iain Softley and unreleased photos of the cast.

“The double vinyl and CD release of the Hackers soundtrack is a truly thrilling moment for me, and one that I have been excitedly anticipating for some time. The music is trance-like, ambient and transcendent, which evokes the film’s parallel imagined world. But it drives forward irresistibly with pulsing bass dance beats,” says Iain Softley.

“The music worked hand in hand with the visual treatment to bring to life the interior state of mind, parallel world and rebelliousness of our leading Hackers characters. Hackers was always intended to be fun, a cyber fairy tale that was irreverent, bold, provocative and energetic. The contribution to this aim played by the different acts that provided music for the soundtrack is hard to overemphasize. It is indelibly interlinked with all the other elements of the film and played a crucial part in the creation of the distinctive world of the movie. For me, it is remarkable that the soundtrack sounds as fresh and vibrant today as it did 25 years ago and has helped to keep the film alive not just in the memory, but firmly in the present,” says Softley.

As part of the next Record Store Day 2020 drop, this special vinyl will be available tomorrow, September 26, 2020, at thousands of independent record stores. The CD version is available today, September 25, at all retailers and features even more unreleased music, with a total of nine tracks by Guy Pratt and Simon Boswell on disc two!
