Coinciding with the film’s premiere in Denmark, MovieScore Media once again teams up with Finnish composer Pessi Levanto (Oma Maa, Swingers) for a most unusual, experimental score in his filmography. Written and directed by Marie Grahtø Sørensen, Psychosia tells the story of Viktoria (Lisa Carlehed), a psychologist researching the nature of suicides who has been just enlisted into the treatment of mental patient Jenny (Victoria Carmen Sonne).

Written and directed by Marie Grahtø Sørensen, Psychosia tells the story of Viktoria (Lisa Carlehed), a psychologist researching the nature of suicides who has been just enlisted into the treatment of mental patient Jenny (Victoria Carmen Sonne).

The two form a tight bond through their intimate nocturnal conversations, but the closer Viktoria slowly gets to experience closeness with another human being for the first time in her life, the more it becomes clear that something is not as it seems.

”Psychosia was quite a different type of project compared to my previous films,” explains Pessi Levanto about the project. “As it’s deeply rooted in European art house -tradition, also the music had to be far more minimalistic and abstract compared to Hollywood-style orchestral music which I’ve utilised in the past.
We found the desired sound in microtonal harp and solo voice which I utilised in a collage -fashion to deepen the more surreal moments in the film.”

On the album, the score has been organised into a 6-movement suite intended to play as a slowly progressing contemporary art music piece, bookended by a prelude and a postlude.

Pessi Levanto has scored around twenty full-length feature films, thirty short films and documentaries plus miscellaneous spots and commercials. He has released seven records of his own and played in and done arrangements for dozens of others.
His credits include the romantic comedy Body Fat Index of Love (2012) and the family adventure Rölli and the Golden Key (2013) and The Swedish Moment (2014). Besides his film work, Pessi is a sought-after arranger.
His project Classical Trancelations with the Helsinki Philharmonics, had sold-out shows of orchestral versions of club music classics. His score for Oma maa and Swingers are also available from MovieScore Media.
