Traditional Vietnamese songs arranged by the Grammy awarded Silkroad Ensemble from the PBS film The ''Vietnam War: A Film By Ken Burns & Lynn Novick.'
Bonus track features Vietnamese multi-instrumentalist Vanessa Van-Anh Vo, and Grammy-winning rising star of Folk, Sarah Jarosz, in a stripped down instrumental rendition of 'We Shall Overcome', performed on the Dan Bau (Vietnamese Zither) and Mandolin.
Following their Grammy-winning album, Sing Me Home, The Silkroad Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma return with music for Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's astounding 10-part documentary film, The Vietnam War. The recording features traditional and popular Vietnamese songs, arranged by members of Silkroad Ensemble, as well as improvisations inspired by the film. Featured artists are Shawn Conley (Bass), Nicholas Cords (Viola), Haruka Fujii (Arranging, Marimba), Johnny Gandelsman (Producer, Violin), Colin Jacobsen (Violin), Kayhan Kalhor (Shah-Kaman), Yo-Yo Ma (Cello, Artistic Director), Cristina Pato (Piano), Shane Shanahan (Percussion), Kojiro Umezaki (Arranging, Shakuhachi), Wu Man (Pipa), Wu Tong (Bawu, Sheng), and Evan Ziporyn (Arranging, Clarinet).
The Vietnam War is a ten-part, 18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. In an immersive 360-degree narrative, Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. The Vietnam War features testimony from nearly 100 witnesses.
