TRUE GRIT: ELMER BERNSTEIN conducts his Classic Scores for the Films of JOHN WAYNE is a special recording which now celebrates the memory of both Bernstein and Wayne.

The legendary Elmer Bernstein composed some of the most iconic film music of all time. Bernstein lays claim to such film music masterpieces as To Kill A Mockingbird, The Ten Commandments and The Great Escape, along with much more recent classics such as Far From Heaven, Ghostbusters and The Grifters. But with all of this marvelous music, the composer may be most famous for his westerns. Bernstein composed one of the most famous pieces of film music ever for 1960’s The Magnificent Seven and, as one of John Wayne’s personal favorite composers, worked on many films with the great film icon.
To pay tribute to his friend, Bernstein himself assembled music from five of his scores for John Wayne westerns, including The Duke’s final motion picture, The Shootist.
Over 75 minutes of music, recorded with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, with Bernstein himself conducting! This is classic film music that embodies the spirit of the American West like no other. They just don’t write ‘em like this anymore!
