The Music Never Stopped - 06/10 - Review of Chris R., submitted at (English)
A lot can be said about a movie as uplifting as this one and the benefits music can have on a suffering individual. The film is about a father and his son who suffers from a brain tumor that keeps him from forming any new memories and the connection they make through music. Now a film like this relies more heavily from tracked in songs than Paul Cantelon's actual music from the movie. Surprisingly most of them are Grateful Dead songs which actually give meaning to the potential scenes for which they play in. Yet the albums ultimate tragedy is that most of Paul Cantelon's score is dwindled down to the single cue Gabriel's theme. The cue is a most somber song played on the guitar that ultimately portrays both the sadness of Gabriel's situation, and the bond with his father. In fact the guitar work alone, the simplicity of it touches the heart strings. Yet the album lacks the subsequent variations, no matter how small on the albums and the score does ultimately give to a light violin rendition that is the highlight to this movie. Yet for an indie movie like this it isn't surprising at all, and the pop music does help to boost sales, but at the cost of the composers own great work for this film.
