Devised by Sheridan Morley, godson and biographer of the legendary Noel Coward, Noel and Gertie premiered at the Donmar Warehouse before transferring to the West End. It tells the story of Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence, a West End and Broadway star of the 1920's-40's.
Gertrude Lawrence was an English actress who had befriended the young Noel on his first tour (they were child stars) and remained close friends until she died in the early fifties. When Gertrude Lawrence died in New York in the middle of the run of The King and I (she was the first Anna), a show specially written for her by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, all the theatre lights on Broadway and in Shaftesbury Avenue were dimmed in her honour. In the film 'Star', Julie Andrews portrayed Gertrude Lawrence.

Noel and Gertie stars Lewis Fiander and Patricia Hodge playing Coward and Lawrence respectively. The production is a 'tribute' to the two departed stars and it contains all the hit songs closely associated with both Coward and Lawrence. Coward wrote the play Private Lives for Lawrence and the song 'Someday I'll Find You' is included here, as is 'I'll See You Again' from Bittersweet and 'Parisian Pierrot', 'Dance Little Lady' and 'Mrs Worthington'. All recognisable classics for fans of Noel Coward.

Lewis Fiander is settled in Australia these days and is actively involved in the music theatre in Sydney. He starred in many West End musicals in the sixties and seventies (Thomas and the King). Patricia Hodge is known to many for her TV and stage work. Starring in West End musicals (The Mitford Sisters) and was seen on TV in The Legacy of Reginald Perrin, The Life of the She-Devil etc.
