Summer Catch is another teen-romance soundtrack tie-in, with seemingly everyone but star Freddie Prinze Jr. on board. (Why not? He didn't embarrass himself on The Brak Album.) Various flavors of pop are the thing, from Semisonic and Fastball tracks that could get them back on the radio to the sexy Vitamin C-like strut of Touch & Go's 'Straight to... Number One.' The quality is mostly high, apart from dull cuts by boy-group Youngstown, lite-rockers Nine Days, and singer-songwriter Dylan O'Brian. Nothing fully captures the dazzle of under-20 love (or lust), though energy flies off Dandy Warhols' fabulous Stones rip 'Bohemian Like You' and Uncle Kracker gets wittier than boss Kid Rock on his Michael Stipe-goes-swamp-rock 'Mr. Hawkins.' Finally, with 'Skin,' Collective Soul knock off another set of those hooks that end up catching even nonfans.
