Il Dolce Corpo di Deborah - 08/10 - Review of John Mansell, submitted at (English)
This is an interesting little score, and is fairly typical of many of the soundtracks that were released during this time. The work opens with a rather sensual sounding duet, MARCEL - DEBORAH is a combination of both male and female voices that mirror each other musically, the voices are supported by a fairly laid back sounding organ that really plays no melody as such but acts as a musical punctuation for the voices, gently underlining their performance. Track two is also a fairly easy going and laid back affair, Orlandi utilising double bass, vibes and piano with the mid paced tempo kept up by brushed percussion. This track actually reminded me of the style employed by composer Armando Trovaioli within a number of the cues from his score for 7 GOLDEN MEN; jazzy but easy going and laid back if you know what I mean. The remainder of Orlandi's score is very much in the same style, jazz influenced cues that are easy on the ear and a delight to listen to. The score is in fact a very short one, around 27 minutes, 12 cues in all. But Fin De Siecle Media have included 12 cues in simulated stereo and also the same 12 cues in mono. This is certainly a score worth having, as it showcases the unique style of not only Orlandi but also of the Italian film score from this period. I was particularly attracted to track number 10 GINERVA it’s a haunting cue where Orlandi combines female vocal with vibes, Hammond organ, jazz piano and more of that brushed percussion. Packaged very well with the some stunning art work based on the original LP sleeve illustration and a 6 page digipack with 8 colourful stills from the movie inside. This is another exciting and collectable release from the Swedish record label. Recommended.
