Connie Francis recorded 'Never on Sunday' after performing the surprise Oscar-winning song live at the 1961 Academy Awards. The LP reached #11 on the U.S. album charts where it remained for 34 weeks and in the U.K., the record also made the best sellers. The remaining tracks on the LP are title songs from popular motion pictures. At the time Connie Francis was at the peak of her career, having achieved 13 Top Ten hits in the four years before the release of this album, and would go on to have further hits. 'Songs to a Swinging Band' features Connie in a more sophisticated mode swinging numbers from the Great American Songbook with the remaining 3 bonus tracks taken from her singles.
