The 14th World Soundtrack Awards welcomes young and talented composers

After revealing the nominees for ‘Best Composer’, ‘Best Score’ and ‘Best Song’ earlier, the World Soundtrack Academy also announces the nominees for the 'SABAM Award for Best Young European Composer' and 'Discovery of the Year'.

DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR
The WSAcademy wants to reward and stimulate the growth of young and talented composers by awarding the 'Discovery of the Year'. The winner will perform at the 15th WSAwards Concert next year. Check out the Discovery 2014 playlist on Spotify through this link.

BEST YOUNG EUROPEAN COMPOSER
Every year young European film music talent is given the chance to receive the 'SABAM Award For Best Young European Composer'. The candidates were instructed to compose music with a scene of Federico Fellini’s ‘Otto e mezzo’ (1963), who will be honoured during the 41st Film Fest Gent. The winner receives the SABAM Award (Value €2.500) and will follow in the footsteps of Gilles Alonzo, the winner of 2013. The professional jury consists of Patrick Duynslaegher (Artistic Director FFG), Dirk Brossé (composer, conductor and Music Director FFG), Belgian composer Michel Herr and Stefan Rycken (ACE Image Factory).

SPOTIFY PUBLIC CHOICE AWARD
In addition to the Awards presented by the Academy, the public can also vote for the 'Spotify Public Choice Award' through the website until 15 September and voters can win a Spotify subscription. You can listen to the WSAwards playlist on the Spotify FFGent account.

14th WORLD SOUNDTRACK AWARDS CONCERT
Besides the awards ceremony, the American composer Cliff Martinez (ex-drummer of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and cult composer of soundtracks of 'Drive' and 'Spring Breakers'), Dan Romer (Discovery 2013), Francis Lai (Lifetime Achievement Award 2014) and Jef Neve (composer ‘In Flanders Fields') will be the central guests of the evening. Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé will perform a selection of scores of these productive and award-winning artists, supported by film fragments on the big screen.

The 14th WSAwards will take place on 25 October 2014 at Kuipke in Ghent. Tickets are available online from €30 on and €20 for students. All info can be found on worldsoundtrackawards.com.
