New DCM digital release: Kenyon Hopkins THE YELLOW CANARY

In the late fifties and the sixties, Kenyon Hopkins gained reputation in film music scoring notably with BABY DOLL, 12 ANGRY MEN, THE FUGITIVE KIND, THE HUSTLER and THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED. He subsequently dedicated himself to TV movies and series.

After the digital release of LILITH (1964) a few months ago, Disques Cinémusique is proud to make available another fine movie soundtrack album composed, arranged and conducted by Hopkins, THE YELLOW CANARY (1963). A story of murder, kidnapping and redemption, this black and white psychological drama directed by Buzz Kulik stars Pat Boone, Barbara Eden and Steve Forrest.

While LILITH is a mix of light jazz and orchestral music, THE YELLOW CANARY concentrates pure jazz and blues, full of tension and excitement. The score relies on a band of twelve virtuoso musicians including Lalo Schifrin at the piano, Billy Byers on the trombone and Kenny Burrell on the guitar. Kenyon Hopkins brilliantly sets the moods and establishes the characters. All in all, he delivers a standalone work that can match any vintage jazz recording of the period.

This Disques Cinémusique release in stereo is available as download notably on iTunes.
