World Soundtrack Awards 2013 winners!

Mychael Danna is Best Film Composer of the Year!

The World Soundtrack Academy announced tonight the winners of the World Soundtrack Awards 2013, the closing event of the 40th Film Fest Gent.

Mychael Danna received two awards this evening for ‘Life of Pi’, namely that of Film Composer of the Year and Best Original Film Score of the Year. Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film is Skyfall performed by Adele. The discovery of last year’s festival program was undoubtedly Dan Romer & Benh Zeitlin with their ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’. They were now awarded the Discovery of the Year for the music they wrote for the film. The audience could also vote for their favorite. The Public Choice Award goes to Rahman Altin for 'The Butterfly's Dream '(Kelebeðin Rüyasý).

After the awards ceremony, Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Maestro Dirk Brossé performed a selection of the incredibly rich and varied film compositions of French director Alexandre Desplat. Some film scores from the Discovery winner of last year – Brian Byrne (‘Albert Nobbs’) – and from the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient – Riz Ortolani – were also performed by the Brussels Philharmonic.
